Python to InterCall

One of the API’s provided by the U2 range of products within the UniDK  is InterCall. This package provides access to U2 data and the ability to execute commands, including UniBasic programs in a non-SQL manner.

It is also possible to use InterCall within Python.

New Podcast from IBM

A new podcast has arrived in my itunes from IBM. Following the general theme, it’s getting the most out of wInetgrate 6.1.

Mail lists down

The U2 mail lists have been down now since 24th March 08. A couple of emails came through this morning, so I hope that they are back online again.

I did send a test email yesterday. This has not turned up today nor was it returned with an email error, so I am assuming that all emails sent to the lists over the last couple of days have been going into the bit-bucket somewhere.

New IBM DB Magazine

This morning, I received an email from IBM regarding the first issue of the new magazine: IBM Database magazine.

IBM have just renamed the DB2 Magazine. OK, so the magazine is more general now, and I was ever hopeful that U2 would be included.

Nop…

There were only two mentions within the whole magazine: a link on the contents pages to the IBM U2 web pages and a mention of the upcoming International Spectrum conference.

Not really good enough IBM!

More PHP Madness

This is a continuation from a previous post – php-in-universe

Well, I have been going mad with the PHP stuff.

I have installed the Zend framework library on my system and I can now use all the components within the library to perform all sorts of exciting stuff.

For example, the framework has a component for common validations.

I decided to write a PHP script/program to use the email address validator.

U2Pipe

An interesting article and code from Rex Gozar:

Brief:

You can connect a web server to a Universe database via u2pipe. Windows platforms use wininetd as the socket listener. Unix/Linux platforms can use xinetd or inetd. This document explains how to do it.

This brings the PE version uptodate with the latest release.

Get an F for History

As I am in the process of moving, I am in the middle of the ‘clean and junk’ routine.

I found a very old fax, dated 27 March 1991, listing ‘a small sampling of correlatives’ which may be of some assistance.

As the fax is almost faded away, it seems appropriate to list them here, in case they come in handy some day…

Warning: As these F-correlatives were written for PICK R83, some are rather spooky!

APP.PROGS – Open Tools

Within the uv account there is a file called APP.PROGS which contains a number of interesting routines. The file description is – File – Used to store unsupported programs and user-contributed programs. Mmmmm…

There are 351 routines (10.2.0 pe) within the file and some are quite interesting.
